The Same Thing Only Different - A Tale of Two Jeeps

Two recent Jeep Renegade models in 1/24 scale diecast appear similar, and they are, but they are not the same. Actually they are the same, but different. The '81 Renegade has a white soft top; the '83 Renegade has a black soft top. That's probably the most obvious difference, but there's more. The '81 is a South American Jeep, as sold in Argentina, for example, a VAM Jeep. Underneath the "Jeep" logo on the front fenders, it says "doble traccion" (double traction, as opposed four wheel drive, as an American Jeep might say). The '83 is an American Jeep. Though both models represent Jeeps made by the same company (VAM), and the models are made by the same model company, the '81 wears different Renegade trim. So, the '83 represents a North American (USA) Jeep, and the '81 represents a South American (Argentina, Brazil, etc.) Jeep...just in case anyone cares.
